In an inspiring move to promote grassroots sports and community unity, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, fondly called Yayi, is launching the Senator Yayi Street Soccer Competition — a state-wide football fiesta that promises to energize Ogun State from the streets to the stadium.
This UNDER-18 football tournament will feature passionate young players from all 20 local governments in Ogun State, starting at the ward level where teams will compete for local bragging rights. Winners will advance to the local government stage, and ultimately, the finest teams will face off in the grand statewide finale for the prestigious Senator Yayi Soccer Cup.
But this competition is more than just football. It’s about youth empowerment, talent discovery, and community development. Senator Yayi, a consistent advocate of grassroots engagement, believes sports — especially football — can inspire discipline, teamwork, and unity among young people.
“Football is more than a game; it’s a bridge between communities, a source of hope for our youth, and a platform to discover future stars,” the Senator noted while unveiling the project.
